Nhlanhla Ncube is an environmental scientist with over 15 years’ experience advising across civil society, government, and the mining sector. He specialises in environmental management, community engagement, and regulatory compliance, with deep expertise in the social, environmental, and human rights risks associated with mining in developing-country contexts.
He has worked extensively on the assessment and review of mining projects, covering environmental and social impact management, risk assurance, IFC Performance Standards, human rights, community settlements, and climate-related risks. Nhlanhla has advised and engaged with a wide range of stakeholders, including government departments responsible for mineral resources, water and sanitation, forestry, fisheries and the environment, agriculture, land reform, and rural development, as well as municipalities, civil society organisations such as Birdlife South Africa and WWF South Africa, and affected local communities.
Nhlanhla brings first-hand understanding of the economic, social, and environmental challenges of both large-scale and artisanal mining operations, supporting clients to navigate complex regulatory environments and implement responsible, locally grounded approaches to environmental and social risk management.
